
ASE (pronounced ah - SHAY), is a term from the Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa. ASE affirms, as we express our spiritual devotion, that there is power in our words; not just the words we speak, but the words and feelings we express in our stories.
Once upon a time, a wonderful group of storytellers came together and decided to make a little magic. They knew that the secret to this magic was in the power of their words. They named themselves ASE: The Chicago Association of Black Storytellers, and they set out to share this magic with each other and the world.
We invite you to join ASE, as listeners and as tellers, as we share the proud history and folklore from the African and African American experience. There IS power in our words!
